Why I Love My Malden & I Spotted a NEW Franklin Covey Binder!

It was recently pointed out in one of my Facebook Groups that Franklin Covey has a couple of BRAND new planners that were not previously shown in their Fall Lineup!  One of them is the new "Quinn" binder available in both Compact and Classic sizes (pre-order now, with an anticipated ship date of November 3, 2014) .  The interior layout is very similar to one of their low cost vinyl budget friendly binders (which I have and love).  My size of choice would be the Compact, I am not sure about the color though - I like them both.  These are the details on the Quinn binder:
Crafted from finely pebbled full-grain leather, the Quinn covers your planner with modern style. It features an interior zipper pocket for your small essentials, two pen loops, slots for your cards, and a slot for your padfolio. Snap closure.  Compact: Measures 6.5” W x 7.75” H x 2” D, Ring size 1”
You can see pictures and more by going directly to the Franklin Planner website:

Now for a little comparison I thought I would take all of my contents out of my Filofax Personal Sized Malden and show you how they fit in the Franklin Covey Compact Faux Leather (vinyl) binder which has the similar layout to the new Quinn Binder.  Keep in mind that the rings on the Filofax are slightly smaller than 1" and the rings on the Quinn Compact and the Faux Leather Compact I am showing are 1".  Also note, that "over-stuffing" the rings and binder as I do is not recommended as it can cause harm to both the ring mechanism and to the binder itself.  If you are willing to take this chance then "stuff away" but remember that you were forewarned that you could cause irreparable damage by doing so.

Let's start with the Compact size faux leather Franklin Covey.  I removed all of the inserts that I had in my Personal sized Malden and put them in here.  It is still rather stuffed even though the ring size is slightly larger than the Malden!

Front Cover

Front Interior Left: Card Slots, Secretarial Pocket, Zipper Pocket and Gusseted Full Pocket (the gusset pocket is what makes the front flap on this so bulky - the new Quinn binder appears to have less bulk as only one end of the zip pocket appears to be gusseted.

Back Right - full length slip pocket.

All of my inserts.
Now lets take a look at my Malden.

Interior Right: full size slip pocket with a side opening pocket underneath it.
All of the same inserts (nice and full)!  Also please note that if you purchase a new Personal
sized Malden the pen loop will not accommodate a pen of this size - I had to do a "pen loop stretch"
DIY hack to make my four barrel Bic fit into the loop.
And....just because I like to show her off, here are some more pics!

◄Although she is super stuffed, I can still get the snap tab closed and it stays closed, so in my mind it is just right!

I like charms, but they seem to get in the way so I solved this by adding my charms to the top of my pen.  It took a bit to get used to the extra weight at the top, but now I am used to it and love the way it looks!

More tabs -  I find it easier to use bottom tabs since my planner is usually sitting open in front of me!

Thank you for stopping by!

Meet My New Filofax! Personal Malden in Ochre....

Just a quick meet and greet!  I got my latest and greatest planner this week - a Filofax Ochre Malden in personal size.  So far I have nothing to complain about - even though the rings are just under 1" at 23mm, I am finding that I can stuff her quite full.  Also I have joined the ranks of those silly ones who name their planners - yep, that's right she has a name!  So without further ado - please meet Grace.

Grace has a mish mash of various inserts - most of them standard personal size (3.75" x 6.75") but at the very back of my planner resides my custom made daily pages and I am using the Franklin Covey Compact sizes for those (4.25" x6.75"), so I have a half of an inch wider page than the standard and believe me that little ole half inch makes a BIG difference!

Watch for more of "Grace" in upcoming posts and maybe even a video or two!
